Get Sponsored
Sponsorship can bring you credibility, visibility, and cash. You may think that only the "big guys" can attract sponsors,
but the reality is different.
Every sponsorship arrangement is like other buy/sell transactions. Each party gets something by giving something. Let's say that
you obtain corporate sponsorship for a seminar or trade show you are putting on. The sponsor may give you cash to help put
on the event, they may provide staff assistance, such as promotion by the public relations department, they may pay for advertising
or mailings, or they may provide other goods and services.
Not only do you get the cash and/or goods, you may also get more credibility from your attachment to a major corporation
or other organization.
What do they get in return? Usually, they get their name and/or logo featured in promotional materials. Maybe their name becomes
a part of the event title ("ABC Computer Training New Technology Expo"). There are lots of ways sponsors can be rewarded. It
all depends on what they want, and what you can and will give.
Having your seminar sponsored and promoted by another organization can help fill the chairs. Offer to present your seminar for
a church, college, professional organization or other group. You can negotiate exactly how this will work, but one possibility
is that they provide a place, handle registrations and promote the event through mailings and advertisements. You do the seminar,
and fees are split between you and the sponsor.
Don't be afraid to try for sponsorship of any item or event. One couple made headlines all over the country when they got
sponsorship for their wedding! One company sponsored the invitations,
another the flowers, etc. Even the rings and the honeymoon were sponsored. Sponsors were acknowledged on the invitations,
banners at the reception, etc. The publicity generated by
the novelty of it all resulted in more attention for the sponsors.
What creative way can you come up with the get the financial support, assistance and credibility that come with sponsorship?
